FAFSA on the Web!

UNLV is delighted to recommend to all clients the Free Application for Federal Student Aid - FAFSA on the Web. This is the most expedient way to complete your application with accuracy and ease. You will find this application process to be clear and user friendly.

To prepare for this application, please collect your 2004 Federal Income Tax Return (with all attachments) to complete the 2005-2006 FAFSA; your W-2 Earnings Statements; your most recent bank account statements; your driver's license; and your Social Security Card. Parental information may be required as well depending on your age and situation.

Before getting started, you may review the UNLV Financial Aid & Scholarships Frequently Asked Questions and the UNLV Student Financial Assistance Guidebook for further information on the financial aid process.

It will take approximately 6-8 weeks from the date the FAFSA is filed for your record to be reviewed by UNLV. You may check your status online through the "My Aid" log in located on the right-hand side of the Financial Aid page of the UNLV website.

Please follow Steps 1-9 listed below to begin your journey to financial aid opportunities. NOTE: While completing the FAFSA on the Web, be sure to read all information before proceeding with the next step.

STEP 1	First-time financial assistance applicants and parents, if necessary, will need to apply for a PIN, if you do not already have a PIN. If you have a PIN, go to STEP 2. Click on PIN Site. Click on Apply for a PIN. Enter your personal information. Click on Submit Request. You will receive your PIN from the Federal Processing Center within 1-3 business days via e-mail or 7-10 business days via mail.
STEP 2	Click on Before Beginning a FAFSA. This list of topics is available for you to become familiar with the FAFSA on the Web process. You are encouraged to pay close attention to all topics, especially: Establish your eligibility Get documents you need.
STEP 3	Click on HOME to return to the FAFSA on the Web Home Page. Click on Filling Out a FAFSA. Select 2005-2006 FAFSA if your enrollment period is Fall 2005, Spring 2006, and/or Summer 2006.
STEP 4	Complete the FAFSA. Follow the instructions carefully before proceeding to the next screen. Be patient as you work through each section and take your time. Processing time can vary according to user volume and browser. UNLV’s FEDERAL SCHOOL CODE IS 002569. Once you’ve entered all of your information, click on Run Final Check.
STEP 5	Print the Signature Page (if you did not electronically sign at the beginning of the application process).
STEP 6	Print Electronic Filing Page for your file. Print the Confirmation Page for your file. Click on Submit my FAFSA Now.
STEP 7	Follow directions to close the file. We recommend you complete the SURVEY to provide feedback to the Federal Processing Center (FPC).
STEP 8	Mail the Signature Page (from STEP 5 above, if applicable) as directed and without delay.
STEP 9	Contact FAFSA on the Web at (800) 801-0576 if you experience technical difficulties using this program. You may also contact UNLV Financial Aid & Scholarships at (702) 895-3424 during normal business hours to answer general FAFSA questions.
